Overview

Aspheres are optical lenses that feature a non-spherical but rotationally symmetric radius of curvature. Unlike spherical lenses, they have a radius of curvature that varies from the center of the lens to the edge which reduces the point of light reception. This has a positive impact on common optical aberrations allowing for an improved single element solution for applications like collimating the output of a fiber or laser diode, coupling light into a fiber, spatial filtering, or imaging light onto a detector. Our Infrared aspheric lenses are often used for collimating light from mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) and long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) laser sources, including Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). We also offer acylindrical lenses, which provide the advantages of aspheres in one-dimensional focusing applications and thermal imaging lenses that focus infrared light without introducing spherical aberration.
