Shipping and Receiving Supervisor

LightPath Technologies is a recognized leader in optics and photonics solutions, serving blue chip customers in the industrial, defense, telecommunications, testing and measurement, and medical industries, for over 30 years. LightPath designs, manufactures, and distributes optical and infrared components including molded glass aspheric lenses and assemblies, infrared lenses and thermal imaging assemblies, fused fiber collimators, and proprietary Black Diamond™ (“BD6”) chalcogenide-based glass lenses. With multiple offices around the globe, this position is located in our Orlando office.

We have an immediate opportunity for a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor to be responsible for maintaining quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards, and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of shipping and receiving goods, while supervising the shipping and receiving personnel.

Job Functions/Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Accomplish shipping and receiving staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities
  • Maintain workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
  • Complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries
  • Ensure operation of equipment by calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Provide shipping and receiving information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing performance records and data, and answering questions and responding to requests
  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and implementing change
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action
  • Champion the 5S and safety initiatives in Shipping and Receiving.  Support other lean manufacturing techniques
  • Participate in physical inventory counts
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills Required:

  • Ability to read and understand operating instructions, procedures and manuals

  • Proficient at using a computer and the following computer programs:  ERP (Visual), Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet
  • Occasional sitting, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, and/or kneeling is required
  • Frequently required to walk, talk, hear, reach, and use hands/fingers to feel or handle
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Able to work with a moderate amount of noise
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English

Minimum Previous Experience/Qualifications:

  • Be a “U.S. person” either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, refugee, person granted asylum, or permanent resident due to company ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulation) projects.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Driver’s License required
  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role
  • 2-3 years’ experience with FedEx, UPS and DHL computer programs for domestic and international shipping
